The Wilderness Journal Outdoor Expo has found a permanent home in Cadillac, inspiring a new tradition in the middle of the Northern Michigan winter, this year January 19-21. After years of hosting expos throughout the state in different locations with different names, organizers have announced that the Wexford Civic Center will be the only location for their Outdoor Expo going forward, and will continue this weekend long annual celebration of the outdoors.
“We call it a celebration, because the Outdoor Expo is a chance to enjoy the best about living in Northern Michigan, brought together in one location,” said Erica Lilly, Expo Director and CEO of ELM&P, “Hunting, fishing, camping, boating, we offer something for just about everyone. Many groups attend year after year, because we really focus on being a family friendly event.”
The popular hunting and fishing television show, The Wilderness Journal hosts this annual event and brings together vendors and businesses from all over the United States and Canada. Certain things are always popular, like the central sporting goods store, boats, campers, tractors and hunting blinds. Show management tries to bring in new entertainment and new vendors every year. Now that The Wilderness Journal has committed to hosting the Annual Expo in Cadillac, they are working hard to make it as successful and fun as possible. Some of the vendors will fly in from as far away as Colorado and Canada, and some booths are set up by local businesses. Vendors can be found listed on the event website.
New this year is an inflatable youth BB gun setup and US Army recruitment trailer with interactive stations, along with surprise door prizes and giveaways. Expo guests will be able to see beautiful taxidermy, speak with hunting and fishing outfitters, visit with clubs, groups and organizations, and shop from booths offering everything from firearms to food.
Kyle Randall, host and Executive Producer of The Wilderness Journal is excited about this year’s growth. “We are thrilled to be back for another amazing winter event in Northern Michigan. The response to our past events has been so positive, and there are so many people in the area that love hunting and fishing, we have decided to make Cadillac the official home of one of our trade shows.”
“Energizing year around hunting enthusiasts to come to Cadillac is our Goal at the Visitors Bureau, because our local economy depends on it. The Expo brings a boost in visitors to our area, and it showcases the great ‘quality of life’ up north offers – whether by visiting or living here,” says Joy VanDrie, Executive Director of the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau, “We look forward to helping promote this show every year, they are a great group to work with. We are excited it’s officially here to stay.”
The Outdoor Expo is open to the public Friday Jan. 19th from 5pm-9pm, Saturday Jan. 20th from 9am-8pm, and Sunday Jan. 21st from 9am-2pm. Admission is $7 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free.
